Activated Carbon | Solids (Category 4)

  • Describe
  • Export requirements

Activated carbon may be classified as a dangerous good under international shipping rules. For example, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), activated carbon is classified as a self-heating hazardous good of Class 4.2, UN No. 1362.Although activated carbon may be considered a hazardous good under certain circumstances, it is not formally classified as a hazardous good in China. Appropriate safety measures and regulations still need to be followed when storing, transporting and using activated carbon.

Activated carbon is a charcoal material prepared from carbonaceous raw materials such as wood, coal and petroleum coke through pyrolysis and activation process, with developed pore structure, large specific surface area and rich surface chemical groups, which has a strong adsorption capacity.

    Classification:

    1. Fruit shell activated carbon: mainly made of fruit shells and wood chips. It is suitable for pharmaceutical, petrochemical, sugar, beverage and wine purification industries, decolorization of organic solvents, refining, purification and sewage treatment.

    2. Powdered activated carbon: made of high quality charcoal. Widely used in food, medicine, monosodium glutamate chemical products such as decolorization, decontamination refining, can also be used for water purification treatment.

    3. Coconut shell silver-carrying carbon: high-strength fruit kernel shells are used as raw materials. It is widely used in water purifier, mineral spring pot, drinking fountain and other purification equipment.

    4. Column activated carbon: high quality anthracite and charcoal are used. Widely used in toxic gas purification, waste gas treatment, industrial and domestic water purification and treatment, solvent recovery and so on.

    5. Activated carbon for food: divided into powder activated carbon and granular activated carbon. It is widely used in life, industry, liquid-phase adsorption, water purification, environmental protection treatment, gas-phase adsorption, and is especially suitable for water purification in power plants, petrochemicals, oil refineries, food and beverages, sugar and wine making, pharmaceutical industry, electronic industry, chemical industry, drinking water industry, fish farming, shipping industry, industrial wastewater, and sewage industry.

    6. Activated carbon cartridge: widely used in semiconductor, electronic devices, printed circuit boards, electroplating industry, food and beverage, industrial and other industries, process water and solution purification.

Activated carbon is usually regarded as dangerous goods when exported by sea, specifically belongs to 4.2 class of easily spontaneous combustible substances, UN No. 1362 189190.In the process of exporting by sea, we need to comply with the following requirements and precautions:

    1. Booking information: booking should be made 2-3 weeks in advance, and provide shipping power of attorney, scanned copy of dangerous package certificate, English version of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), Dangerous Goods application form and other information.
    2. Packing method: The packing method of activated carbon is class (Ⅲ), usually packed in plastic bag outside kraft paper with airtight seal, and packed in sack or plastic woven bag outside jacket; granular activated carbon needs to be packed in wooden barrel lined with kraft paper and plastic bag.
    3. Storage requirements: stored in a dry, ventilated warehouse, away from fire, heat sources, can not be stored and transported with oxidizing agents, and strictly prevent moisture or rain.
    4. Crating into the port: export activated carbon must be done on the side of the ship direct loading, note that direct loading of the terminal acceptance of the direct loading program may be very late, usually have to wait for the ship to berth before allowing the delivery of cabinets.
    5. Customs declaration information: 4-5 days before the ship departure, we will provide customs declaration, customs declaration power of attorney, box list, invoice, declaration elements and other information.
    6. Dangerous goods declaration: according to the requirements of different shipping companies, prepare the declaration information in accordance with the cut-off time for declaration.
    7. Documentation: export of dangerous goods must provide the original dangerous goods certificate, no dangerous goods certificate can not be exported, you need to provide 10 working days in advance of the dangerous goods certificate, cargo details of the data TO, submitted to the shipowner for review.
    8. Transportation identification report: for products containing activated carbon filters, etc., it may be necessary to provide maritime transportation identification report.
    9. Pay attention to the policy of shipping companies: some shipping companies may prohibit the acceptance of activated carbon, so you need to choose a suitable ship owner when booking.
    10. Safe operation: When loading and unloading, we need to pay special attention to safety, prevent leakage, and operate in professional and regular qualified dangerous goods warehouses.
